Brody Medford
Lead Pastor
Brody Medford is the Lead Pastor of Gateway Church in Waynesville, NC, a growing church planted in 2022 with a heart to send people out. He’s passionate about raising up the next generation of leaders and eager to see more gospel-centered churches everywhere for everyone.
Before planting Gateway, Brody and his family spent three years serving as missionaries in Italy, ministering to refugees from North Africa and the Middle East. He holds a Master of Divinity from Southeastern Baptist Theological Seminary and is committed to building churches that are rooted in the gospel and shaped by God’s mission.
He’s married to Maddy, and they have four young kids who keep life loud, joyful, and full of snacks. Brody loves strong coffee, good travel, and the challenge of any DIY home project.
Dan Smith
Directional Elder
Dan Smith serves as a Directional Elder at Gateway Church, bringing decades of pastoral experience and a heart for the next generation. He and his wife, Leslie, have been married for over 40 years and have led student ministries in Georgia, Ohio, Florida, and Waynesville.
Dan holds a Master of Divinity from The Southern Baptist Theological Seminary and has spent his life helping people grow in their faith and love for the church. He leads with humility, wisdom, and a steady commitment to gospel-centered ministry.
The Smiths are grateful to live near their two adult daughters and enjoy life beside a lake, just a few miles from the Blue Ridge Parkway. They love spending time outdoors hiking, fishing, gardening, and camping. Dan also enjoys woodworking and building things that last.
